Does my voice leave my Mac?
No. Recognition runs on your own Mac, so your voice and your transcripts are not uploaded.
Does Mumbly keep the recording?
No. The audio is held in memory while you speak and until the text lands, and then it is gone. Nothing is written to disk.
Does Mumbly keep what I dictated?
Mumbly keeps a history of your recent dictations on your Mac, so you can copy something a second time. It stays on the machine, and you can delete one entry or clear the lot from the app.
What does Mumbly send back about you?
Basic anonymous usage data: that the app was opened, which settings you picked, and how long a dictation was. Never your voice or your text, and you can turn it off in Settings under Privacy.

Mumbly is free. There is no subscription, no word limit and nothing to cancel.
Do I need an account?
No. There is nothing to sign up for and no email to hand over. Download Mumbly, open it, and dictate.
Does Mumbly run on Windows, or on my phone?
No. Mumbly is a Mac app, and that is the whole list.
How does Mumbly update itself?
Mumbly checks for its own updates and installs them. Each one is checked against its signature before it is unpacked, so an update that was tampered with is refused.
Using Mumbly
How do I dictate?
Hold ⌥ Space, say what you want to write, and let go. The text lands in whatever app you were already in. ⌥ Space is only the default — pick whatever shortcut you like.
Which apps does it write into?
Any app on your Mac. There is no plugin to install and nothing to set up per app.
Does it work with no internet?
Yes. There is no server in the loop, so Mumbly works on a plane and in a basement.
Which languages can I dictate in?
More than 100.
