What Wispr Flow does with your voice
There is no offline mode. Every dictation is uploaded to Amazon Web Services in Northern Virginia, transcribed there, and sent back to your Mac.
Its Context Awareness feature can send the text and screenshots of whatever app you are working in, so the transcription fits what is on screen. On some setups it is on by default.
In 2025 a security researcher found Wispr Flow sending audio and screenshots to third-party AI providers without disclosing it. Wispr Flow's first response was to ban the researcher's account; its CTO apologised afterwards. The company has since added a Privacy Mode, made AI training opt-in, and been certified to SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001.

Recognition happens on your own machine. Hold ⌥ Space, speak, let go, and the text lands in whatever app you were already in.
Your voice is not uploaded
There is no server to send your voice to, and Mumbly works on a plane. The app collects basic anonymous usage data, which you can turn off at any time.

Wispr Flow sells single sign-on, audit logs and a signed HIPAA agreement to companies. Mumbly has none of that.
